Jason Whitcomb was born and raised in South Burlington, Vermont. He studied trumpet with David Brubaker. David was the former principal trumpet of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and trumpet teacher at the University of Vermont.  After graduating from South Burlington High School in 2001, he attended SUNY Potsdam, The Crane School of Music.  There he studied trumpet with Dr. John Ellis. He graduated in 2005 with a B.M. in Music Education and a Trumpet Performance Certificate.  Jason then went to the Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the College Conservatory of Music (CCM), at the University of Cincinnati.  Jason studied with the former Principal trumpet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Philip Collins, and Principal trumpet of the Dayton Philharmonic, Alan Siebert.  He graduated in 2007 with a Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance.

After spending a month in Italy through CCM the summer of 2007, playing opera and studying under Marie Speziale, Jason returned to Vermont.  Since his return Jason has been working diligently to spread the knowledge of what he has learned through his many years of study with various teachers, but especially that of David Brubaker. David had lasting effects not only on Jason’s trumpet playing, but so many throughout Vermont. He’s made it a goal to represent Mr. Brubaker’s educational philosophy and trumpet excellence.  Jason’s studio has grown to be 40+ students a week, varying in ages from second through adults of varying ages.

Both of Jason’s parents were public school teachers for 40 years. Through a combination of what he has learned through his collegiate studies, and the influence of his parents, Jason tries to incorporate hard work, diligence, and laughs. With these methods he creates an environment of improvement and dedication to further each musicians’ abilities.   Whether at various Vermont Universities or his studio space in Essex Junction, VT – JW Collective Studios – all ages and abilities are welcome.
