“…one of the best jazz orchestras in existence, a powerhouse outfit whose precise section work is enhanced by thrilling soloists.” --- The New Yorker

Seven-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist Arturo O’Farrill and his Quintet are the perfect artists to celebrate our renovated hall and our return to live concerts. Son of the legendary Cuban band leader Chico O’Farrill and leader of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Arturo began his professional career with the Carla Bley Band and continued as a solo performer with a wide spectrum of artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis, and Harry Belafonte. This O’Farrill family musical legacy endures with Arturo’s talented sons, who will make an appearance here in his Quintet.

Joining the Quintet will be the UVM Jazz Ensemble (Alex Stewart, Director) and UVM Music Faculty Members Geoffrey Kim (guitar), Alex Stewart (tenor sax), Matthew Avery (trombone), Patricia Julien (flute), and Scott Dean (percussion).

Our concert will be followed by an outdoor reception in honor of our return to the concert hall.
