Our community of faculty, scholars, students and staff work together to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time and are incredibly passionate about making a difference locally and around the world. Here are a few examples of how our researchers are tackling current issues that are key to our future:
- Studying the impacts of Covid-19 on food insecurity and helping to feed Vermonters in need.
- Working with smallholder coffee farmers in Mexico and Nicaragua to improve livelihoods and strengthen the sustainability of the global coffee market.
- Using video games and interactive models to help curb animal disease outbreaks.
- Making discoveries that could help advance safe and efficacious vaccines for dengue, the most prevalent mosquito-borne viral infection worldwide.
- Preserving the genetic diversity of critical crops as they become threatened by global climate change.
- Assisting maple producers throughout Vermont and internationally through cutting-edge research and educational offerings.
- Preparing the next generation of science, engineering, technology and agriculture leaders through 4-H programming for Vermont’s youth.
Our academic disciplines, undergraduate and graduate programs span the life and social sciences and provide educational and research opportunities from “cells to society.” The College is proudly home to UVM Extension, the state’s cooperative extension service, whose faculty and staff work throughout the state to help improve the quality of life of Vermonters through research-based educational programs and practical information.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our extensive educational, research and outreach activities.
