Resource Guide for Vermont's New and Aspiring Farmers

This guide was developed by the member organizations of the Vermont New Farmer Network to better connect beginning farmers with agencies and organizations that serve them.

The guide provides framework for understanding common challenges that new and aspiring farmers may face. These challenges fall into four main areas: access to capital; access to production knowledge; access to land; and access to markets. Each of these chapters examine considerations and resources available within the state and region to address that access topic.

Next, it provides descriptions of organizations who can help new farmers address those challenges. These organizations are members of the Vermont New Farmer Network. Each description includes an overview of services, specifically how each organization serves new and aspiring farmers, and contact information.

Finally, the guide contains appendices that provide an overview of farm credit availability and some considerations for managing and deriving income from farm woodlots.
