Local Food Promotion

Local food businesses can be listed for free in our online Valley Food and Farm Guide. Our annual local food celebration and expo in April, Flavors of the Valley, showcases farms, restaurants, and food businesses. Our monthly e-newsletter provides additional education for consumers and supporters of local agriculture.

Supporting farmers with learning opportunities and resources

We offer one on one consultation with beginning farmers to help them identify action steps for their farm plans. We leverage VT and NH resources and partnerships to bring workshops, farm visits, and classes to the Upper Valley. The pilot Upper Valley Farm Worker Learning Collaborative brings farm workers in the Upper Valley together about once a month for a different farm visit and topic of discussion. The Farmer e-newsletter lets producers know of regional opportunities and workshops.

Market development

Vital Communities works with towns, employers, institutions and farms to investigate and facilitate new markets for local food products in the Upper Valley. Recent projects include workplace-based CSA and loose produce sales, school-based local food fundraising, and fresh food ordering systems at grocery stores.
