Medical Student Neuroscience Research Fellowships
  Medical Student Neuroscience Research Fellowships

The University of Vermont (UVM) College of Medicine is pleased to offer one year paid fellowships for medical students to provide training in Neuroscience Research.

There is a growing need for academic clinicians with an in-depth understanding of relevant basic and translational science. Physicians with such experience are highly qualified and likely to succeed in establishing clinical research careers, allowing them to participate in developing the next generation of medications and future treatments. Neuroscience is one of the fastest developing areas of research, and UVM offers a large array of possible mentors in the exciting areas of neuronal signaling, nervous system development and regeneration, mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease, and behavioral studies.

The program is supported through a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) grant from the National Institutes of Health. It provides a stipend of $25,000 to conduct fulltime neuroscience research for one year in close association with a faculty mentor. Currently, up to three stipends are available per year. Eligible are all UVM medical students in good academic standing who have completed at least their first year of study.

Faculty associated with the COBRE award comprise the primary pool of mentors available in the program. However, other UVM faculty engaged in neuroscience research may also be approved as mentors at the discretion of the fellowship program director, Dr. Felix Eckenstein.
