Anne Janson, Faculty Recital: Flute

Location: UVM Music Recital Hall
Description: Vermont Virtuosi continues its innovative programming with a reprise concert of music that spans four centuries for multiple flutes. “Pipe Dreams 2: Same pipes, different dreams” will feature seven of the finest flutists in the tri-state area performing music by Felix Mendelssohn, Gustav Holst, Johann Sebastian Bach, Christoph Willibald von Gluck, Frédéric Chopin, Julius Fucik, Zequinha de Abreu, Richard Rodgers, Philip Thomas, as well as the premiere of Eventful Heroics by Vermont composer David Gunn.

The ensemble comprises Anne Janson, Laurel Ann Maurer, Melissa Mielens, Hilary Goldblatt, Heidi Baxter, Robin Cameron Phillips, and Norman Thibodeau playing piccolo, C flute, alto flute in G, bass flute, and contrabass flute.

Anne Janson, Faculty Recital: Flute

“intriguing programs expertly played” (Barre-Montpelier Times Argus)

Vermont Virtuosi, Vermont’s dynamic new chamber music series, continues its innovative programming with a concert for multiple flutes, featuring UVM and Middlebury College Affiliate Artist Anne Janson as soloist in Mozart’s “Andante in C,” transcribed for flute ensemble.

Seven superb flutists hailing from Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire will join forces in Pipe Dreams to perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Maurice Ravel, and Vermont composer David Gunn. The ensemble includes Hilary Goldblatt, Alison Hale, Anne Janson, Laurel Ann Maurer, Melissa Mielens, Robin Cameron Phillips, and Norman Thibodeau playing piccolo, C flute, alto flute in G, bass flute, and contrabass flute.

For the fall 2015 concert, The Vermont Wind Ensemble offers a program of “Musical Adventures”. Offerings include “Land of the Long White Cloud”, a musical description of New Zealand, musical portraits inspired by five of the characters from Melville’s novel Moby Dick in “Of Sailors and Whales”, and a day at a historic New England amusement park in “Rocky Point Holiday”. Music by Steven Bryant, Robert W. Smith, and John Philip Sousa are also included on the program.

Faculty Recital: Yutaka Kono, tuba

Description: Yutaka Kono performs with MetalWerx Tuba/Euphonium quartet:

MetalWerx is a quartet consisting of two euphoniums, played by Dale Long of South Burlington and Michael Paul of Franklin, and two tubas, played by Tim Foley of Burlington and UVM music faculty Yutaka Kono.

The quartet will perform work by well-known composers and will feature several works written specifically for this instrumentation.

UVM Recital Hall, Music Building, Redstone Campus
Admission is free and the public is welcome.
