I started out as plant biology major and on a whim I declared a molecular genetics minor so I could take Stephanie Phelps' class Intro to Recombinant DNA Technology. I didn't know what the class title meant, but it sounded cool so I thought it was a good idea. Three years later, in reflection, it was the best decision I've ever made because I have since switched my major to molecular genetics. My post grad plans are to pursue a higher-level degree in molecular biology and I honestly believe the MMG department and faculty played a vital role in steering me down that path.
