Karl Zahn received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University with focus in biochemistry. Before joining the CMB program, he worked several years in the Doublié lab where he crystallized complexes of the DNA polymerase from phage RB69 with DNA and nucleotides. Currently, Karl is investigating the mechanisms of translesion DNA synthesis by both replicative and repair DNA polymerases. These processes are inherently error-prone and can give rise to mutation and cancer.
