Biohazard
Team History and Mission Statement
Every so often in life,
washed up and out of shape graduate students have the opportunity
to prove to their peers that they were once indeed great athletes.
A chance to get away from the everyday grind that is the biological
sciences and this mental vice we call research. After the long cold
Vermont Winter and through the one week we know of as Spring, the
Summer months beckon all graduate students to emerge from their
research lairs, squint their eyes from the bright sun and yearn
for activity. This void is filled every summer when the MMG departmental
softball team takes the field.
Biohazard was created by Mike Wichroski (Ward Lab) who managed the
team through four glorious seasons (1998-2001). With the support
of numerous graduate students and faculty, Biohazard has consistently
fielded a competitive team and has proven to be the flagship franchise
of all science related teams. The 2000 season proved to be pinnacle
of the last four years as the team brought home the intramural championship
trophy to MMG after numerous gut wrenching defeats in the semifinals
of the 1998 and 1999 playoffs. During the ensuing 2001 season, Biohazard
played valiantly defending their title, but came up short with a
heartbreaking loss yet again in the semifinals. With the eminent
loss of many players, Biohazard is committed to rebuilding through
the draft (otherwise known as new 1st years) and will field a team
for years to come. After four glorious season, founding manager
Mike Wichroski has retired and the team has hired up and coming
ace Jeff Mital to succeed the most successful coach in franshise
history. For information on how to sign up, trades, free agency
or contracts, contact Jeff Mital (x6-1146 / Rm. 214 Stafford) for
information.
