Hagan Selected as One of 7 Innovative Pediatricians by Parents Magazine

The November 2013 issue of Parents magazine features Joseph Hagan, M.D., clinical professor of pediatrics and a provider at Hagan Rinehart Connolly Pediatricians in Burlington, Vt., who was recognized as one of the seven most innovative pediatricians in the U.S.

Hagan, was presented with this honor – along with a $1,000 donation from Parents and Desitin to the charity of his choice –  at the 2013 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Convention and Exposition in Orlando, Fla. in October 2013. Hagan directed his gift to Burlington, Vt.-based Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS).

A past chairperson of the American AAP Committee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health, Hagan chaired the Academy’s Task Force on Terrorism. He has served as an advisory board member to the Maternal and Child Health Benefits Study of the National Business Group on Health, and currently chairs the Vermont Citizen’s Advisory Board for the Vermont Agency of Human Services Department for Children and Families.

Hagan completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and a pediatrics residency at the former Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (now Fletcher Allen Health Care). He has contributed to the three major pediatrics textbooks published in the U.S., including serving as co-editor of Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children and Adolescents, Third Edition, published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and designated as the standard for preventive care for youth up to age 21. He is currently working on the fourth edition of Bright Futures. In 2008, he and his UVM Department of Pediatrics colleagues and Bright Futures co-editors Judith Shaw, Ed.D., M.P.H., R.N., and Paula Duncan, M.D., jointly received the Green Mountain Pediatrician award from the Vermont AAP.
