South Burlington, Vt. pediatrician and Timber Lane Pediatric Associates partner John J. “Jack” Murray, M.D.’63, will be recognized with the University of Vermont College of Medicine’s most prestigious alumni award at Reunion 2013 – the A. Bradley Soule Award. He will receive this honor at the “Celebration of Achievements – Legends and Leaders” awards and recognition event, which takes place on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 5 p.m. in the Davis Auditorium in the Medical Education Center on Level 2 of the Fletcher Allen Health Care Ambulatory Care Center Campus.
The Soule Award is presented to an alumnus or alumna whose loyalty and dedication to the College of Medicine most emulates those qualities as found in the award’s first recipient, A. Bradley Soule, M.D.’28. Soule’s career spanned some of the most important years in the history of the College and his profession. Soule was a member of the UVM faculty for nearly 54 years, and helped found the Medical Alumni Association at UVM.
Murray, a retired clinical professor of pediatrics at UVM, has a long history of dedication and service to the College of Medicine. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UVM, and then served two years in the U.S. Air Force, returning to Burlington in 1968. Murray worked as a pediatrician in private practice and as a clinical instructor in the department of pediatrics from 1968 to 2007. During his clinical teaching years, he was privileged to help educate pediatric residents and medical students in both hospital and office settings. He developed the Pediatric Senior Sports Medicine Elective in 1983, serving as director until 2005. As a member of the UVM Admissions Committee from 2007 through July 2012, Murray helped to select an impressive group of candidates for admission to the College. His dedication to excellence in medical practice is reflected in his service on that committee and the wisdom acquired from his many years of working as a pediatrician. He has been a class agent since graduation, ensuring that the members of his class remain engaged with the College and one another. Murray earned the Medical Alumni Association’s Service to Medicine and Community Award in 1995.
