Our laboratory evaluates human skeletal muscle physiology from the whole body to the molecular level in an effort to identify the fundamental defects that underlie muscle atrophy and dysfunction. The long-term goal of our translational approach is to identify cellular and molecular targets for therapeutic interventions that can delay or correct physical disability. Additionally, we investigate various therapeutic interventions for their ability to correct molecular and cellular defects and improve overall physical funciton in these conditions. We currently focus on conducting studies evaluating muscle structure, function and metabolism in chronic disease, disuse and aging.
