University of Vermont College of Medicine Program in Integrative Health About Us

About Us

With guidance and support from the Dean of the College of Medicine, the PIH was created in 2004, as a response to Vermont's growing interest and demand for Complementary and Integrative Medicine. In 2006 the PIH joined other academic health centers in the nationally recognized Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. The members of the PIH represent a collaborative effort from UVM College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care, UVM Medical Group, and our community partner the Laura Mann Center for Integrative Health. The PIH encourages its members to serve as expert academic resources for our colleagues in the use of evidence-based Integrative Health within our health care system.

Our mission is to foster and facilitate strong synergistic interdisciplinary and inter-professional collaboration in the academic study and clinical application of Integrative Medicine.

The objectives of the PIH are to:

  • Promote medical education with regards to the safety, efficacy and evidence-informed use of Complementary and Integrative Therapies.
  • Promote evidence-based research in Integrative Medicine focusing on Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation
  • Investigate sustainable clinical models of multidisciplinary complementary and integrative health care in the academic and community health setting

We are located on the University of Vermont campus, and adjacent to Fletcher Allen Health Care, fostering a culture of collaboration and partnership. Our Burlington home is nestled between the shores of Lake Champlain and the vistas of the Green Mountains.
