1976 Hamilton-Maynard Medal of the Medical Association of South Africa for the best single-author paper in the SAMJ in 1976
1990 Neville Proctor Prize of the South African Institute for Medical Research for the best article in Anatomical Pathology published in the preceding year
1995 Janet Sceales Antrobus Award from the Janet Sceales Antrobus Trust, administered by the Department of Surgery, for research into prognostic indices in breast cancer, in conjunction with Mr. Gary Fetter
1996 Named as Light Source Personality of Cytopathology in South Africa by the International Academy of Cytology publication "CYTOPATHS"
1999 The Gladwyn Leiman Cytopathology Centre was named and opened after refurbishment of the Cytopathology Department of the SAIMR
