Student Education Group Welcomes New Members

SEG would like to welcome their newest members from the class of 2016: Emily Keller, Karl Kristiansen, Sarah Johnson, and Nick Field. They are currently working on projects developing an honor code for the student body and working with the library to develop a stronger database for USMLE study material. They have also created an independent process for foundations course reviews based on student surveys and have already reviewed Connections, ICDM and CMB. Please contact your class SEG representatives if you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, or join them at their next meeting on January 8th, 2013. 

Meet the Staff: Megan Chlebeck

Diversity & Inclusion logo Megan is the newest member to the Office of Medical Student Education, providing support for Associate Dean of Students Dr. Christa Zehle and the student affairs team. She graduated summa cum laude from The College of Idaho, with a BA in Business Administration, and recently moved to Vermont from Boise, Idaho with her husband Jesse, a resident in Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. She will coordinate the Careers in Medicine workshops, as well as the Deans' Lunch and Open Forum events, and is editor of the Weekly Wire with information on student activities and events. If you have information to share, an event to plan, or need an appointment with Drs. Zehle, Waterman or Burris, please email Megan or call 656-8648.

Students Invited to Partake in EHR Survey

Current UVM medical students and nurse practitioner students are invited to take part in an Electronic Health Record (EHR) survey funded by a Frymoyer Scholoarship, to assess the "best practices for provider, patient and student communication when EHR is utilized in the outpatient clinical office visit. Your answers will help develop curriculum to enhance your education and the education of future UVM medical and nurse practitioner students. Your answers will be de-identified and handled by a secure network and the results will be kept in a locked office. Danbury Hospital Awarded Joint Commission Certificate

Danbury Hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Disease-Specific Certification by demonstrating compliance with their national standards for health care quality and safety in orthopedic joint and spine care. These two-year certifications recognize Danbury Hospital's outstanding performance and commitment to a higher level of care in three distinct programs: Hip Arthroplasty, Knee Arthroplasty and Spinal Surgery. Danbury Hospital underwent a rigorous two-day, on-site certification review in November, during which a Joint Commission expert evaluated these programs for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families. Areas of emphasis included Program Management, Patient Safety and Education, and Performance Improvement. Read the full story.


Since mid-September, contestants have been out to capture their favorite views and vistas in 10 different categories. Voting is now open to determine which of the photos are your favorite. Winning photos will be printed and displayed in the Office of Medical Student Education. Browse through the photos then go to the PhotoDocs Contest Survey (click on the Survey link on COMET at the bottom of the courses list), and vote for your two favorites in each category.
