Students Reflect on Experiences Around the Globe

Taylor Goller in UgandaWith 80 pounds of microscope equipment packed in their bags, second-year students Karl Kristiansen and Taylor Goller left the United States June 26 bound for the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) in Kampala, Uganda. The duo's month-long visit includes of studying, conducting research, and laying the groundwork for a partnership that may allow future UVM medical students to study at UCI as part of an expanding global health education program. Danbury Hospital's Patient Tower Grows

Danbury Hospital Tower Construction

Danbury Hospital and the Western Connecticut Health Network are striving to meet the ever growing needs of their patients by holding a campaign to assist with the development of new facilities, resources, talent, and technologies. Part of this campaign is aiding in the construction of a patient tower at Danbury Hospital to create a more welcoming and healing environment. Learn more about the expansion.

SIG Highlight: OB/GYN

OB/GYN Student Interest GroupThe OB/GYN Student Interest Group is dedicated to helping medical students learn about the field of OB/GYN and the diverse opportunities it provides from working closely with physicians to gain hands-on experience to learning about OB/GYN residency matches led by Class of 2016 students Angela Doswell, Madeline Eells, and Emily Xue, and Faculty Advisor Elise Everett, M.D. Events for the upcoming semester include regular birthing simulations, brown bag lunch discussions, and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology conferences. Meet the Staff: Barb Brisson

Barb BrissonBarb joined the Office of Medical Student Education in the Spring of 2011 as the Event Coordinator, designing and managing all the major events of your medical school experience from Orientation to Graduation. Prior to working for the COM, Barb held positions such as the Executive Producer for educational television, a community relations professional with the State and health insurance company, a project manager building off-shore oil rigs and working for the Leninsk-Kuznetskii hospital in Russia. Barb has a BS in International Business & Marketing. If you have questions about the medical student events, email Barb or call 656-0757.

Medical students interested in pursuing their research and a cultural immersion experience through a fully funded fellowship abroad should strongly consider applying for a 2014-2015 Fulbright Research Grant or a Fulbright-Fogarty Public Health Fellowship. The deadline for the 2014-2015 application is September 17. Contact Fellowships Director, Brit Chase for more information.
