Support for Danbury Community

Candles for Sandy Hook victims The terrible tragedy in Newtown, Ct., was just 10 minutes from our affiliate Danbury Hospital. What makes it even more personal for us is that, unfortunately, one of our preceptors in the pediatrics clerkship, Robbie Parker, lost his beautiful 6-year old daughter Emilie in this tragedy. UVM medical students have had, or will have, the opportunity to work in the Danbury community, and wanted to help alleviate some of the community’s burden with a unified gift from the UVM College of Medicine. To make a donation to the UVM effort, visit Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

Student Education Group Update

Current course representatives are Sarah Johnson for Attacks and Defense and Ben Clements for Convergence. Please contact them with any suggestions for course improvements that they will then pass on to the Course Directors. SEG is currently working with Alice Stokes, Library Assistant Professor, to revise the student USMLE resource website that the Dana Medical Library offers. This will include a list of resources available broken down by exam and then further by topic. SEG is working with Alison Howe, Evaluation and Research Specialist, to develop and standardize the new process of SEG’s review of the student course evaluations. We hope this will be a valuable asset for the Foundations Committee and Course Directors by providing student interpretation of the course surveys. SEG, with collaboration from the Student Council and Wellness Committee, is continuing to draft a Student Honor Code and will be holding an open forum in the near future to get student input. Please contact Ben Clements, Emily Schloff, Karl Kristiansen or Kati Anderson if you would like to assist with the project. Please contact Emily Schloff with suggestions to improve the atmosphere of the ‘medical student only’ carousel room in the library. See a full list of SEG meeting minutes on COMET.
