Teaching Tips

Teaching Tips are a series of mini-courses designed to assist faculty, clinicians and residents in the College of Medicine with skills that will upgrade their teaching. Each mini-course is a self-paced learning experience that should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The course links list the learning objectives and a course outline in addition to the module itself for easy reference prior to taking the course.

  • Module One: The First Meeting with a Student
    • Learner Objectives: After completing this mini-course, the learner will be able to:
      • become familiar with a set of best practices for orienting a medical student to the office;
      • review and revise his/her own procedures for orienting a medical student to the office.

  • Module Two: How to Develop a Good Question for Discussion
    • Learner Objectives: To review and enhance various skills that faculty and resident in the College of Medicine use in their roles as teachers. After completing this session, the learner will:
      • become familiar with a set of best practices for creating questions for discussion;
      • gain skill in using the strategies presented for creating discussion questions.

  • Module Three: Leading a Discussion with Students
    • Learner Objectives: This mini-course is designed to provide guidance on leading a discussion with students. The purpose of the series is to review and enhance various skills that faculty and residents in the College of Medicine use in their roles as teachers. After completing the session, the learner will:
      • become familiar with a set of best practices for learing students in a discussion;
      • review and revise his/her own procedures for leading student discussions.
