Winter 2014 Webmaster's Bulletin
Mark Your Calendars for January 6th
The College of Medicine received a message from UVM Enterprise Technology Services prior to the winter break informing us of an update to the central webfarm which hosts www.uvm.edu happening on Monday, January 6. Because of the updates that will be made, they are encouraging all websites to be checked once the updates are made. I will be following specific instructions given by ETS, but it will be incredibly helpful to me if you can assist by clicking around in your sites and let me know if you find any problems that I may miss.
Please also take this opportunity to note any outdated information within your website and update it or remove it as necessary.
If you are experiencing problems with your edits to Biobuilder not saving, you may have to change your browser to compatibility mode. To do this, look for the icon in your URL bar that looks like a piece of paper with a tear through the middle. It is located next to your refresh button. Click on the icon to enter compatibility mode. Try making your changes again, and save. If you continue to experience problems, please contact me.
Annual reports are now available on the Vermont Medicine Website. We will be going through and adding the links to your annual report on your website’s About Us page. If you would like the link to be available somewhere else within your site, please feel free to let me know and we can add it for you.
The next Contribute training is scheduled for Thursday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. The session is currently full and those who are signed up will receive a reminder message a few days prior. The February training is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. Please email me if you would like to sign up for this session.
Responsive Web Design
All sites have now been converted to RWD. In editing the responsive site, you will notice that any sidebars you have (for example, on your ABOUT US page), are now their own page in the Z: drive. Your sidebars will now be called links_extra-about (or –(pagename). If you need to make changes to your sidebars, look for the links_extra that matches the name of the page, and make edits from there.
- Please visit the Office of Medical Communications website and review the resources provided for using Adobe Contribute, editing bios in BioBuilder/People Management, and get information on creating a social media strategy.
- You no longer have to submit footprints to COMIS to gain access to faculty in Biobuilder. Simply send an email to me and copy the head of your department or center with the subject line "Biobuilder Access Request". Please also include all names of the individuals you need access to edit.
