Overview

This conference will provide anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and anyone with an interest in the field of anesthesia with practical reviews and timely informative clinical updates on a variety of topics of current interest. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions. Faculty includes recognized experts in their fields, both on a national level and from the University of Vermont. The atmosphere will be friendly and informal and there will be ample time for questions and discussion with faculty and colleagues.

Objectives

1. Discuss the latest trends in ambulatory anesthesia.
2. Become acquainted with indications for and methods of continuous patient surveillance on regular units.
3. Recognize the current state of processed EEG in anesthetic monitoring.
4. Identify current concepts in postoperative analgesia including pitfalls and success stories.
5. Be updated on prescription narcotic use and abuse in the US and what we can do about it.
6. Be conversant with current trends in the management of the obstetrical patient.
7. Learn what we as anesthesia providers need to know about sepsis.
8. Become updated on complex regional pain syndrome.
9. Review the new anticoagulant drugs and how the they affect our practice.
10. Discuss the perioperative management of the patient with obstructive cardiomyopathy.
11. Discuss the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis induced lung injury.

Accreditation

The University of Vermont College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits^TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 16 hours of AANA Category 1 Credit.

Registration Fees

Tuition Fee is $575 for physicians, $450 for nurse anesthetists, and $350 for physicians-in-training for registrations postmarked by January 30th. Fee includes all course materials, continental breakfast and coffee breaks each day, and Johns’ Fund Reception. Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $75, will be made only if notice of cancellation is received in writing by February 15, 2013. Refunds are not possible after that date.
