Please visit our website again for information on the 2014 Emergency Update Conference taking place January 26-29, 2014 at the Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, VT.
January 27-30, 2013
Stowe Mountain Lodge, Stowe, VT
This event will discuss a variety of timely, practical issues that are encountered in the emergency department on a daily basis. Lectures will be engaging, sometimes controversial, and present the audience with examples of both successes and failures in emergency medicine. Changes don’t always equal advances and advancement doesn’t always mean change. At the end of this program, participants should be able to distinguish between advancement and change in the emergency department in a relaxed, family-oriented environment where learning does equal fun!
This program has been designed to include all emergency medicine professionals including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, trauma nurses, residents, and emergency medicine technicians.
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Be aware of new uses of ultrasound which can affect their practice
- Consider new concepts in ED palliative care management
- Identify key concepts in the management of sepsis
- Be more adept at diagnosing and managing cardiac arrythmias
- Recognize and manage pediatric emergencies in the ED
The workshops will be held at the University of Vermont College of Medicine Sim Lab in Burlington.
POC Ultrasound Workshop: This full-day workshop will allow participants to gain hands on experience at POC ED ultrasound imaging with live models and with different ultrasound machines. Studies reviewed will include cardiac, abdominal, thoracic, pelvic, soft tissue, and vascular. Enrollment will be limited to ensure a small group size for each ultrasound instructor and machine and maximize hands on learning.
Suturing Workshop: The suturing workshop will review different techniques for wound closure and management. Topics covered will include simple wound closure to more complicated repairs. Participants will have ample opportunity for hands-on instruction of all suturing/wound closure techniques.
Splinting Workshop: This hands-on workshop will review different materials and techniques available for immobilizing extremities injuries in the ED. Participants will become facile at applying high quality, anatomically functional, and comfortable splints for their patients
