Overview
This course is designed to address timely clinical issues encountered in the arena of critical care. All ICU caregivers (physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physicians’ assistants) will obtain up-to-date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions.
Please indicate on the registration panel if you wish to receive a flash drive with PDF versions of the presentations, or if you wish to receive a syllabus binder with printed handouts. (If you choose a flash drive, you will be required to bring your laptop. Extra books will not be available.) For an additional $15, you may receive both a binder and a flash drive.

Special Event
The Essex is home to Vermont’s Culinary Resort! Join their world class culinary team for an exciting cooking demonstration on Thursday evening during the Welcome Reception. The chef will prepare Hors d’oeuvres utilizing local Vermont products. Please indicate on the registration panel the number of people attending (families welcome).
Optional Airway Management Workshop
We have added an optional Airway Management Workshop on Friday afternoon. The workshop will provide hands-on simulation stations, featuring rigid fiberoptics, supraglottic devices, open cricothyroidotomy and percutaneous cricothyroidotomy. The registration fee includes a light lunch.
Objectives
Identify the etiology and treatment of acute kidney injury in the critical care environment; Identify cardiogenic shock and the basis for interventional therapies; Identify the pathophysiology of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; Identify the treatment strategies for massive hemorrhage; Develop a comprehensive approach to end of life care.
Workshop Objectives
Describe a variety of difficult airway techniques and demonstrate them on an airway mannequin; Describe the technique of emergency surgical airway and demonstrate on an ex-vivo airway model.
Accreditation
The University of Vermont College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Application has been made to the American College of Emergency Physicians for ACEP Category I Credit. This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 13.5 Nursing Contact Hours. (Expiration: 10/20/14)* *The University of Vermont Office of Continuing Medical Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Vermont State Nurses’ Association, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Credit for other providers is pending. PLEASE NOTE: If you do not participate in the optional workshop, the conference is only accredited for 12 credits.

Accommodations
The Essex, “Vermont’s Culinary Resort & Spa,” is Burlington area’s only AAA Four Diamond property. The resort, featuring on-site golf, ropes course, pond, and much more, is set on 18 acres of Vermont countryside. The 22,000 square foot, full service spa includes 10 treatment rooms, a 25-yard indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, fitness center, hair and nail salon, and locker rooms with steam rooms, saunas and relaxation areas. The course fee includes comprehensive course materials, continental breakfast and coffee breaks each day, as well as the welcome reception for registrants and guests on Thursday evening. The Critical Care Conference registration fee is $525 for physicians and $350 for other ICU caregivers. Please return the Registration Form along with appropriate registration fee. PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY! The fee for the Optional Airway Management Workshop is $100.
Refund Policy
Refunds: Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $75, will be made only if notice of cancellation is received, in writing, by September 30, 2012. No refunds are possible after that date.
