14th Annual Northern New England Critical Care Conference

October 13-15, 2016

Stoweflake Resort and Conference Center


This course is designed to address important clinical issues encountered while delivering critical care. All ICU healthcare professionals (physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) will be given up‐to‐date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions.

Course Objectives

* Discuss the best practices for invasive and non-invasive ventilation.

* Discuss the utility of ultrasound in the critical care setting.

* Discuss the evaluation process for tracheostomy placement and swallowing evaluations.

* Discuss the impact of patient and family centered care in the critical care setting.

Optional Ultrasound Workshop

An optional ultrasound workshop will be offered which will include rotation through ultrasound practical stations, offering hands-on instruction and experience. Enrollment is limited.

Workshop Objectives

* Practice the utility of ultrasound for evaluation of pneumothorax.

* Practice the utility of ultrasound for evaluation of pleural effusions and guiding thoracentesis.


The University of Vermont College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

An application has been submitted to the American College of Emergency Physicians for ACEP Category I credit.

An application has been submitted to The State of Vermont Board of Respiratory Therapists for continuing education credit.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 13.5 Nursing Contact Hours.

The University of Vermont-Continuing Medical Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Vermont State Nurses Association's Committee on Education, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Credit for other providers is pending.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not participate in the optional workshop, the conference is only accredited for 12 credits.

Room rates cannot be guaranteed after August 26th. Accommodations sell out quickly throughout the area during foliage season. The Stoweflake offers extensive recreational facilities and superb continental cuisine. A spa, heated indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, and fitness equipment are located on site.
