Dr. Brummel Ziedins received her PhD in 1997 in Biomedicinal Chemistry at the University of Maryland. Her graduate training was in drug design and development of biosensor technologies.  She trained as a Postdoctoral Fellow (until 2000) in the Hemostasis and Thrombosis training program under the tutelage of Kenneth Mann at the University of Vermont. Her work resulted in the development of analytical systems to determine how clot formation occurs in non-anticoagulated whole blood.  One key result showed how fibrin formation is an integrated process in whole blood versus plasma based systems. In 2001, Dr. Brummel Ziedins joined the faculty of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Vermont to develop her own research program on blood coagulation profiling of hemostatic risk on an individualized level with a specific focus on what alters thrombin generation dynamics and translation of her approaches/methods into the clinic.  Her research has been selected for two State of the Art presentations at the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (2009 and 2013).
