Medical Student Admissions

Requirements

lecture classroomAn earned bachelor’s (baccalaureate) degree from an institution accredited by the National Committee of Regional Accrediting Agencies in the U.S. or Canada is required for all students matriculating to UVM College of Medicine. An applicant's undergraduate studies must include: 6 credits of coursework and 2 credits of lab in each of the following sciences listed to the right:

We also strongly recommend one course in biochemistry or molecular genetics be taken. All required courses should be completed at the time of application. If they are not, detailed plans for completion by the end of the spring semester for the entering year must be listed on the transcript portion of the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application. Documentation of successful completion with an official transcript must be received as soon as a grade is available. Failure to document completion of premedical requirements by July 1, 2012 will result in the rescinding of any acceptance orwaitlist status.

Advanced Placement Credit Policy

High school advanced placement courses will be accepted only if credit appears on the college transcript and subsequently appears on the AMCAS transcript portion of the application.

MCAT Requirement

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is required of all applicants. MCATs must be taken within three years of the application. (i.e., applications in 2012 must include MCATs taken in 2009 or later.) Information on the MCAT is available at: www.aamc.org/mcat. MCAT registration packets are available from:
