CSWD Leaf and Yard Debris Disposal Guidelines
- By Ann Hazelrigg
As of July 1, 2016, leaf and yard debris is banned from landfills according to Act 148 (the Universal Recycling Act).
Blighted and other diseased plant material is accepted at the Green Mountain Compost facility (1042 Redmond Road, Williston; 802-660-4949) as well as at CSWD Drop-off Centers and the McNeil plant in Burlington.
Plant debris should arrive in brown leaf bags and site personnel must be informed when it’s dropped off. Green Mountain Compost prefers that it be brought directly to them, as this is where it ultimately ends up. More information on disposal of diseased and noxious plants is available at http://cswd.net/a-to-z/diseased-or-noxious-plants.
Residents who live outside Chittenden County should check with their solid waste district for disposal options. Check out the timeline at the bottom of the CSWD Act 148 webpage for more specific information: http://cswd.net/about-cswd/universal-recycling-law-act-148.
