Curriculum
This non-credit course covers the basics of home horticulture and what it means to be a Extension Master Gardener (EMG). The instructors are comprised of UVM faculty and Vermont horticulture professionals. Course topics include: Botany Basics, Entomology, Plant Diseases, Food Production, Soil Fertility, Perennials and Annuals, Sustainable Landscaping, Rain Gardens, Turf and Weeds, Invasive Plant Control, and UVM Extension Volunteering. - This course is an intensive, introductory course that covers the basics of home horticulture and plant and soil sciences.
Volunteer Internship & Certification
To receive your certificate as an Extension Master Gardener, you must complete a volunteer internship of 40 hours in addition to the Course. Graduates (EMG Interns) will partner with Certified Extension Master Gardeners on local projects. 2014 interns will have until December 2015 to complete their 40 hours.

Admission to the Course
Admission is on a first-served basis and historically this course has filled very early.
Missed Classes
A maximum of 3 missed classes is allowed. This course runs 13 consecutive weeks. Students are expected to purchase a DVD of any missed class and submit a written summary. The DVD price is $17 each (subject to change in 2014). DVDs are provided only if a student has missed a class.
