L/L Renovation Project
Suggestions & Ideas Received from Web form

I think a key consideration for L/L should be having washers and dryers for laundry in all parts of each building - low, mid, and high. I find it a difficult task to get my laundry done when I need to because there are too few washers and dryers for the amount of people living in a building.

In the rooms, I think it would be very helpful to not have an outlet connected to the light switch.

Thicker walls, I can hear everything at it is disturbing when trying to sleep or study.

More lighting in Common rooms

A kitchen sink or big sink in common room

New clothing drawers and perhaps built in closets.  This would save some space

No courtyards... I live next to a noisy courtyard door and it is really annoying. People party out there and you can hear everything.

I don't know if this necessarily applies to the renovations, but it's a problem nonetheless: It seems every week or so, I encounter some lost or confused person looking for this or that office. While I don't mind giving directions or acting as a guide, I think it would be easier on everyone if there were directories or maps around to help people find what they're looking for. Believe it or not, some people actually find this building confusing, and so I think some sort of guide, perhaps a map posted in the Commons and at the front desk, would be helpful.

Though I am not a student, I know the day to day problems that confront students.  I know their concerns, and have heard their wishes.  Your email indicates that you are looking for students to serve on the Focus Group.  Are there other opportunities for staff?

The heating systems do need to be improved, but also the lack of insulation doesn't help anything.  You can feel the cold seeping through the cinderblock walls.  The plumbing is bad but it looks like you are going to fix that.  A suggestion is that you take out the bathtubs.  NO ONE takes a bath, and they just get clogged with hair and then you get to shower with scummy water up to your ankles....it is pretty gross.  Sinks that we could actually wash dishes in or fill a water bottle in would be nice (deeper sinks or an arched faucet).  It would also be nice to have a fan in the bathroom so if you are ill everyone doesn't have to hear it or smell it for that matter.  IF you rewire anything, change the outlet that is attached to the light switch because I can't plug anything of use into it (the fridge, clock, tv, radio would all be without power as soon as I turn off the light).  I have had numerous bugs crawl out of the cracks in the celing, can you just fill them in with putty or something?  If you redo the ceilings make them somewhat smooth.  If you are in a loft and you hit your head or hands on the celing, not only do you get a headache or pain but you also get scraped up with all the "texture" that is on the celings now (2nd and 3rd floors)It would be great if there were a sink in the little kitchenet area in the suite but that could be don't without.  You should consider some kind of shelving/ cabinets like they have on redstone for up by the ceiling because we don't have much storage room in L/L.  Also in the bathrooms there needs to be more light, but not fluroscent because that is obnoxiously bright.  One last thing is that the power seems to be wired vertically so if someone upstairs blows a fuse on a wall the same wall goes out down here.  I don't know how to fix this but it would great if someone figured it out and fixed it. I"m glad someone finally asked my opinion after having lived here 4 years.

We NEED deeper sinks in our bathrooms.  Idealy, it would be nice to have a small sink in the counter area in the common room.  But I realize that would never happen, so deeper sinks in the bathrooms would be nice.  It is extremely hard AND annoying to do dishes in the sinks, as a plate is too big to even be cleaned properly in them.

Also, we have noticed that one half of our suite is extremely hot, while the other side is freezing cold, and have been told from other suites that they have this problem as well.  I don't know what you could do to fix this, but it would be nice to be fixed.

The rugs are so gross in L/L, and should be ripped up.  My own rug has large, mysterious stains on it, and I don't even walk on my own carpet in my bare feet.  It's so nasty!  (I also realize that this is something that is not as important as others, but it is something that will have to be redone at some point or another).

Thank you!
