Music Production

Program Overview

Music Production is a professional interest/performing arts program for those who want to learn or advance their skills in the technical aspects of recorded music. Students will master techniques in music production, song writing, MIDI and electronic music, as well as learning the recording process and finally putting it all together for our self produced CD.

Music Production will support an environment where music in all forms is encouraged. Program members will be encouraged to play with other students where new ideas are formed, recorded, and eventually made into song. Students will be in constant musical contact with one another and will form groups to record their original songs with.

In Music Production, we plan to utilize music as an outlet for creative expression. As a program, we will work together to share what we know about making and producing music with each other. It will be a community of students with the unanimous understanding that live music will not only be tolerated, but encouraged.

Aside from jamming, we will have an agenda of program activities. We plan to hold bi-weekly meeting to discuss the process of taking an original song and producing for a studio quality recording. Program directors lead students with goals throughout album production and will openly accept input from all program members to make for a productive program.

Presently, our lists of program activities include hosting live performances by program members as well as bands and artists outside of the program, playing open mic nights in L&L and Slade hall to promote the program, discussions on production techniques, and plenty of listening to original and recorded music. Ultimately, we will produce a compilation of recordings on an album. Our cd of original material will be sold to benefit charity such as a Tsunami relief fund or VH1's Save the Music Foundation.
