Subject-area tutors provide assistance by appointment to UVM undergraduates in two ways, through either Campus-Wide or Co-op based tutoring. Campus-Wide tutors work with students directly to set-up appointments around campus while Co-op based tutors hold regularly scheduled hours in the Learning Co-op.
Each tutoring session is an hour in length, and tutors are expected to work no more than 10 hours each week, though the hours are incredibly flexible. Campus-wide tutors set their own schedules by deciding how many tutees to accept and when they will meet with them. Co-op based tutors work a set schedule of their choice in the Learning Co-op.
All undergraduate students are encouraged to apply beginning their second-year until their final semester as a senior. Tutors are required to have completed the course(s) they wish to tutor having maintained a grade of B+ or better and will be required to obtain a faculty recommendation completed by their professor for each course they wish to tutor. The recommendation is not necessary for application, but must be submitted prior to hire. Upon hire, tutors must also attend training before they can begin work in the Learning Co-op.
$9.00 per hour ($9.75 if work-study) to start; with raises available with experience.
The following list outlines those courses for which we consistently receive a high demand for tutoring. The more courses you are qualified to tutor, the more competitive your application is. We hire on a rolling basis, so if at any time throughout the school year you are motivated to share your expertise, you can apply at any time!
