Subject-area tutors provide assistance to UVM undergraduates in different ways. ‘Campus-Wide’ tutors work with students directly to set-up appointments around campus while Co-Op based tutors hold regularly scheduled hours in the Learning Co-Op. Tutors meet either one-on-one or in groups, reviewing course-specific material and learning strategies.
Tutoring sessions are typically an hour in length, and tutors are expected to work no more than 10 hours each week, though the hours are incredibly flexible. Hours are often split between scheduled time in the Learning Co-Op, and more variable appointments made by request with students.
We hire on a rolling basis, so if at any time throughout the school year you are motivated to share your expertise, you can apply at any time!
All undergraduate students are encouraged to apply beginning their second-year until their final semester as a senior. Tutors are required to have completed the course(s) they wish to tutor, having maintained a grade of B+ or better and will be required to obtain a faculty recommendation completed by their professor for each course they wish to tutor. The recommendation is not necessary for application, but must be submitted prior to starting work. Upon hire, tutors must also attend training before they can begin work in the Learning Co-Op.
$9.00 per hour to start; with raises available with experience.
High Demand Courses:
We consistently receive a high demand for tutoring for these courses. The more courses you are qualified to tutor, the more competitive your application is.
