Moira Smiley and VOCO is a visionary blend of voices, redefining harmony singing with the power & physicality of folksong, the avant-garde fearlessness of Béla Bartók and the accompaniment of cello, banjo, accordion, and body percussion. They perform original improvisation-built songs steeped in Appalachia and Eastern Europe. A favorite of area audiences since her appearance at last year’s Lake Champlain Folk Festival, Moira is a native Vermonter who has remained true to her rural New England roots while embracing a global sound.
