Lane Series Ushers

Lane Series ushers are an integral part of our organization. Ushers attend performances and assist Lane Series staff with greeting audience members, taking tickets and creating a comfortable and safe environment for our patrons.

If you are interested in ushering with the Lane Series, please contact Freda Farrell at 802-656-4487 or Freda.Farrell@uvm.edu with your name and email address. Information on usher opportunities will be is sent via email each summer. A new usher orientation in early September is required of all new ushers.

Community Relations Committee

Members of the Community Relations Committee volunteer to serve food and drink at the “Meet the Artist” Receptions, prepare desserts and/or snacks for the receptions, or both. Those who bring food for the receptions are reimbursed for ingredients/purchases, and all committee members receive complimentary tickets in exchange for their service. We are always looking for new members. Please contact Freda Farrell at 802-656-4487 or Freda.Farrell@uvm.edu if you are interested.

EDUCATION & OUTREACH

Pre-Performance Talks

We invite you to attend our series of free pre-performance talks with the artists and Lane Series Director Natalie Neuert. These talks take place in the hall from 6:30-7:00pm prior to select performances and allow for a dialogue between artists and audience in the intimate setting of our Recital Hall. Designed to enhance the audience members’ experience, these talks cover everything from what to listen for in the music, to the unique life choices of a touring musician, to the specialty instruments, to lives of the composers, and more. There is always time for a lively discussion and questions from the audience. Please try to arrive before the talk begins so as not to disrupt the discussion.

“Meet the Artist” Receptions

“Meet the Artist” Receptions are held following most performances at the UVM Recital Hall. These receptions are open to all audience members and hosted by the Lane Series Community Relations Committee, whose members serve light snacks, desserts and beverages in the lobby of the Recital Hall. We believe that the opportunity to linger after the performance, have a bite to eat, and meet the performers is one of the traditions that makes the Lane Series special.

Master Classes & Workshops

Throughout the season the Lane Series offers a variety of master classes and workshops which provide an opportunity for students and community members to engage with our visiting artists on a deeper level. Many of our artists are not only stellar performers, but accomplished educators as well! Master classes are individual lessons given on-stage to advanced students, and are open to the public so that all in attendance can benefit from the teacher’s comments. Workshops are focused on the group learning experience, and often benefit from the artist’s expertise in a particular area.
