“...this was an evening of fine playing and music-making by one of the most promising period-instrument ensembles to have arrived on the Canadian music scene in years.” William Littler, The Toronto Star
Masques is a Montreal-based ensemble that perform music of the 16th and 17th centuries. The name of the ensemble is inspired by the masques of Elizabethan England — mystical performances that fused poetry, music, dance and drama. Masques has risen rapidly to international attention, winning the Grand Prize in the Dorian/Early Music America Competition in 2000. Following the release of their ensemble’s first recording, they travelled from Vancouver to New York, where they debuted at the Frick.
In the spirit of the group’s dramatic name, and Halloween fun, we invite the audience to come to the show in costume!
