SUMMARY:Lila Downs
DESCRIPTION: co-presented with the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts Lila Downs is an extraordinary artist, known for her deep expressive voice which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Frida (in which she also appears). Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, she is the daughter of Mixtec singer Anita Sánchez and Scottish-American art professor and filmmaker, Allen Downs. She grew up in Oaxaca, California, and Minnesota, and her music reflects a peripatetic life: she performs traditional Mexican folk songs, Cumbia, richly textured pop, and American blues and jazz, sung in both Spanish and English with power and edginess. A true world artist, she has headlined all over the planet, joined by her band La Misteriosa, a multicultural group of accomplished instrumentalists. Price: Adult: $40/$33/$25 Student: $36/$29/$21 Seating chart (opens in a new window) For Special UVM Community Discount (UVM faculty, staff and students only), please call 656-4455.
