“Renowned for their unearthly vocal blend and virtuosic ensemble singing, the four women of Anonymous 4 combine historical scholarship with contemporary performance intuition to create their magical sound.” – Lisa Flynn, WFMT
We are pleased to be able to present one of our favorite early music vocal ensembles, ANONYMOUS 4, as they visit us one final time for their 30th anniversary and farewell tour. For our annual Holiday Concert, these talented women will be performing “On Yoolis Night,” one of their first and most beloved holiday programs. Songs, motets, and carols from British sources illuminate all of the aspects of the Christmas story and its many kindred legends: biblical precursors, Balaam’s prophecy, Gabriel’s greeting, Mary’s virginity, the birth of Jesus, the rising of the star, the angels and the shepherds, the manger and its animals, the three Magi and their gifts. The thread that ties all of this music together is a striving toward something out of the ordinary, a special sound or gesture, reserved for this most wonderful time. Don’t miss this special, final performance on the Lane Series by Anonymous 4!
