“…Kobo Town is a unique, stylistic, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism. Like the great Calypsonians of his birthplace in Port-of-Spain (Lord Kitchener, the Mighty Sparrow), Toronto-based songwriter Drew Gonsalves constructs incisive social commentary with humour, panache and unforgettable rhythm/melody combinations.” — Exclaim!

Engaging, edgy, political, smart lyrics and infectious melodies: Kobo Town is one of those bands whose music gets under your skin, into your head, and won’t get out (in a good way). Led by the charismatic and brilliant performer Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town plays music based in the Calypso traditions of Trinidad. Kobo Town is named after the historic neighborhood in Port-of-Spain where calypso was born. Combining the intricate wordplay of classic Caribbean music and running it through a 21st Century filter, Kobo Town plays celebratory and joyful music that sounds wholly original and authentic. Plus it’s loads of fun.

Pre-performance talk at 6:30pm.
