“…there’s a tremendous spark to everything this band plays, and that comes from the obvious joy all four players take in making their music. As a result, Hot Club Detroit lifts Reinhardt’s concepts out of the realm of repertory and propels them into a brave new century. That is not only way, way cool, but it’s a gift that should keep on giving for a long, long time.” — J. Hunter, Nippertown
As many of you know, we do love our hot club style jazz on the Lane Series. Hot Club of Detroit features one of our new favorite performers, the French accordion/bandoneon virtuoso Julian Labro, who performed on the Series last year with guitarist Jason Vieaux. Called “brilliant” by no less an eminence then Marian McPartland when they appeared on Piano Jazz in 2009, HCD puts its own unique spin on Parisian gypsy jazz with an instrumentation comprised of guitars, bass, reeds, and accordion. HCD’s lead guitarist Evan Perry said, “People say you catch the Django bug and never get rid of it.” We agree!
