“As an ensemble, the Imani Winds cultivate the big, rich sound one associates with classical players — and they also display the daring, respond in-the moment qualities one associates with a swinging jazz combo.” — Chris Waddington, New Orleans Times Picayune

It has been a while since we have had the delightful Imani Winds in our hall. The country’s premiere wind quintet, the Imani ceaselessly tour our world’s finest venues and series, bringing their exceptional musicality and vision to a wide range of audiences. Committed to music from the classical chamber music repertoire, the group is also known for its adventurous programming and focus on works by Latino/a and African-American composers through their current “Legacy Project.” The quintet regularly collaborates with artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to Wayne Shorter. Shorter’s Terra Incognita – his first-ever composition for another ensemble – was premiered by Imani Winds. On the Lane Series, they will perform works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Astor Piazzolla, Anders Hillborg, Paul Hindemith, Julio Madaglia, and Valerie Coleman.

Pre-performance talk at 6:30pm.

Funded in part by the Expeditions program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional support from the six New England state arts agencies.
