Re-shot: 12 Maplewood Terrace
Town:
Hartford
County:
Windsor
State:
Vermont
Date:
2012-06-18
Description:
This color photograph documents the former location of 12 Maplewood Terrace, near the intersection of U.S. Routes 4 and 5 in White River Junction. 12 Maplewood Terrace and several neighboring dwellings were demolished when the two U.S. highways were widened and re-routed across a new bridge over the White River. This highway engineering project accompanied the construction of I-91 along the west end of the city. In this image, North Main Street (U.S. 4 & 5) passes across the foreground and is lined by concrete sidewalks. A wood-frame, gable-roof dwelling stands on the far side of the road at the left edge of the image. A large, ornate carriage barn with rooftop cupola is attached to the rear of the dwelling. A few small trees and shrubs vegetate the manicured lawn. This dwelling faces off the camera and fronts the remaining section of Maplewood Terrace, which is accessible by foot via a set of stairs off the main highway. A parking lot abuts the property to the right. 12 Maplewood Terrace once stood where the parking lot is now located. A thickly-forested hill rises to the rear of the properties. The season is spring.

State:
Vermont
Date:
1966-08-17
Description:
This black and white photograph looks southwest toward the dwelling at 12 Maplewood Terrace, which is located near the intersection of U.S. Routes 4 and 5 in White River Junction. The property was owned by the Trustees of the Methodist Church and was used as a rectory. The two-and-one-half-story, wood-frame, gable-roof dwelling stands on the far side of the paved road at the center of the image. A decorative porch adorns the fašade of the otherwise modest, shingle-clad structure. Shrubs and deciduous trees vegetate the small patch of lawn. A driveway runs along the right side of the dwelling, and a sidewalk passes along the front edge of the property. A utility pole stands at the edge of the lawn. The rooftop of another gabled dwelling is visible at the left edge of the image. A cluster of road signs is posted at the edge of the road in the lower left corner of the image. The season is summer. See LS46499-LS46511 for more views of this property.
