Mill Pond in Jamaica

Title:
Mill Pond in Jamaica
Town:
Jamaica
County:
Windham
State:
Vermont
Date:
1910 - 1940
Description:
This black and white photograph captures a mill pond in Jamaica. The still waters of the pond spreads out across the lower half of the image. A small hill rises to the right of the pond. Large shrubs and trees grow thickly around the edges of the pond and are reflected in the glassy surface of the water. A line of rocks is partially submerged at the right side of the image. A cluster of wood-frame, gable-roof farm buildings, which appear to be connected, is sited along the far side of the pond and partially obscured beneath the heavy vegetation. Another building is located atop a cleared hill further in the background. Forested hills and mountains rise in the distance. The thick foliage suggests the season is summer. This photograph was taken by a photographer for the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. and contributed to the Landscape Change Program by the Penobscot Marine Museum, located in Searsport, ME. Eastern Illustrating was a postcard company located in Belfast, ME that took thousands of photographs throughout New England and upstate New York from 1909 through the 1950s.
