Description:
This black and white photograph depicts Champlain Bridge crossing Lake Champlain from the air in 1938. Built in 1929, the bridge connects Chimney Point, Vermont and Crown Point, New York spanning 2,184 feet. The bridge's structure is a combination of thru truss, deck truss, and deck plate girders. The Vermont shore is on the left. The low-lying fertile land of the Champlain valley meets the wooded peaks of the Green Mountains in the distance.
