Completed Grand Isle-North Hero Bridge

Title:
Completed Grand Isle-North Hero Bridge
Town:
Grand Isle
County:
Grand Isle
State:
Vermont
Date:
1953
Description:
This image shows the completed drawbridge between Grand Isle and North Hero. In the top right are deciduous and coniferous trees. The bridge approach is on a large pile of rocks, and on the right side stands a wooden-frame house. It has a small porch and a chimney, and parked in front of it is a truck. The bridge itself has railings along the side and a small house-like booth towards the right bank. Construction on this bridge began in 1951 and was completed in 1953. It replaced an older movable bridge, and when it is raised, it opens an 80-foot channel in Lake Champlain. This information comes from "Crossings, A History of Vermont Bridges" by Robert McCullough.
