Title:
Winooski Urban Renewal Progress 1
- Date:
- 1972
- Description:
- This photograph is the first from a four part series documenting Winooski's urban renewal. On a snowy day, looking on from across E. Allen St., two buildings sit adjacent to the sidewalk, behind three parked cars. On the left is a lightly colored one-story building with five windows and a glass door with two steps leading up to it. On the center of the building, atop the flat roof letters read, "DINER." Next to them is a white sign with a Coca-Cola emblem and "DINER" written again above it. At the right of the door, letters spell out, "BILL'S." Next to Bill's Diner sits a three-story brick building with a flat roof. Above the ground level, ten windows look out onto the street. Below them on the first floor are four large windows and three doors leading inside. Above the first doorway, the word "NEWSTAND" is visible on a white sign with two Coca-Cola logos. On the other side of the building, white letters printed on one of the windows read, "RICHARD'S BARBER SHOP." In the right of the frame, a three-story brick building labeled as "HANSON'S" is partially visible. Several vehicles are visible. Leafless deciduous trees can be seen behind the buildings.
