Title:
Woolworth Building
- Date:
- 1960?
- Description:
- Across a parking lot filled with cars, a large brick building with a flat roof sits in the background of the frame. Rows of windows face the parking lot and the neighboring building. In slightly deteriorated white paint the words "Sears Roebuck and Co." can be seen. Below them a black sign with white lettering reads, "Sears rear entrance." To the right of the Sears building, behind a light post sits a low, lightly colored building with a flat roof. Above a doorway, large, dark letters read "Woolworth's." A man is walking across the parking lot. A third, taller brick building is visible on the far left side of the image. Pete Chagnon writes on 2008-06-28:
This picture was taken post 1960, probably early 60's. The "new' Woolworth building replaced the old structure after the Cathedral school was torn down (1959), since the parking lot is pretty much where the school was. The station wagon (fore, left) is parked on St. Paul Street. The Sears store has only the back entrance and not the automotive building that was built prior to 1970. JC Penny also shared the same building as Sears, taking over the entire structure sometime in the 70's.

Title:
The Old Woolworth's Building
- Date:
- 2008-05-30
- Description:
- This is a reshot of the old Woolworth’s Building in downtown Burlington. On the right of the picture, the back of a two-story brick building is visible. There is an entrance on the far left, and a large recessed entrance in the center. The area appears to have been infilled and there are no longer any glass windows or doors. A car is parked in front of the recessed entrance, and a ladder is attached to the top of it. The “Woolworth’s” sign has been replaced with a sign reading “Old Navy.” In front of the building, there is now a concrete wall and a large tree deciduous tree. There are also several small bushes, and a circular curb. On the left of the image, a taller brick building is located across the street. There appears to have been an addition to the back of this building. Signs on the building read “CCV” and “Borders Books and Music.” An awning shelters the main entrance on the side of the building. Several people are walking down the street between the two structures, and cars are parked on the street.
