Aerial View of Peacham

Title:
Aerial View of Peacham
Town:
Peacham
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1989
Description:
Photographer Hanson Carroll captured this aerial view of Peacham in the fall of 1989. The view looks down on the main road through the village. A church, with a tall spire, sits prominently at the end of the road. A clock on the tower appears to read about 7:30 (the light suggests 7:30am). An automobile is parked at the front of the church. Several other wood-frame, gable-roof dwellings and outbuildings line the road. Three dwellings on the left side of the road have a string of outbuildings connected at the rear. This practice of connected architecture was common in 19th-century Vermont. Utility poles and lampposts line the road. A second road runs perpendicular with the main road and forms a "T" intersection. Several dwellings line the second road. Open pastures spread out beyond the village. A patch of snow remains in the pasture on the right. A smattering of dwellings and farm buildings are visible among the trees in the far distance. Deciduous trees grow throughout the village. A few have almost completely lost their leaves, but many are ablaze in reds and oranges. All rights reserved, copyright Vermont Life Magazine. Contact Vermont Life at editors@VermontLlfe.com
