Farm and Pond in South Pomfret

Title:
Farm and Pond in South Pomfret
Town:
Pomfret
County:
Windsor
State:
Vermont
Date:
1957
Description:
David Witham of North Bridgton, Maine, captured this picturesque, summertime view of South Pomfret in 1957. A large, glassy pond spreads out across the foreground of the image. A red, wood-frame, gable-roof barn sits on the far side of the pond. Its reflection is captured almost flawlessly in the clear water. Small, deciduous trees, shrubs, and flowers grow around the perimeter of the pond and along the side of the barn. A wood pier juts out into the pond in the right foreground of the image. A wood fence runs along the back edge of the pond, behind which a small group of birds (chickens?) are clustered. A grassy hill rises behind the barn. A line of leafy, deciduous trees spread out across the background of the photograph. CM writes on 2008-01-19: This photo is actually in North Pomfret, not South Pomfret. It is the barn and pond behind the Sherburne Farm. All rights reserved, copyright Vermont Life Magazine. Contact Vermont Life at editors@VermontLlfe.com

This nostalgic scene in South Pomfret was an early attempt by David Witham of North Bridgton, Maine to record Vermont's natural beauty, a very successful try we think.
