Title:
Burke Mountain's Poma lift 2008
Town:
Burke
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-03-15
Description:
Burke Mountain's single-person poma lift as seen in the Spring of 2008. You'll notice that there is little difference in the lift itself from the historic to modern images, as the original poma remains today, many replacement parts later. The shack to the left of the poma has disappeared as has the fence. Plywood was put up to shield the skiers from the poma sticks as they return to the station. There are many more trees in this image than in the historic image, as the hill on the right side of the images has been reforested. The utility pole is also no longer there today. In the very foreground of the historic photo there is a tree (right side). There are no trees there anymore and that ski trail, Warrens Way, is extremely wide, much wider than it was in the 60s and 70s.

Title:
Poma Lift at Burke Mountain
Town:
Burke
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1970 - 1980
Description:
The Poma lift, which is the original ski-lift at Burke mountain, is still in use today. While the top station has been moved, a turn station added to the poma line, cables, poma sticks, and bull wheels have been replaced, this lift remains in its original condition and place. The shack to the left of the lift is no longer there but there is now a shack (the warming hut) right across from the shack in this picture. Notice to the right the bare hilltop. Notice also the ski-clothing in the picture. Image shows snowy day with lightly forested slopes in distance and skier on lift.
