Title:
Burke Mountain from West Burke area, rt. 5
Town:
Burke
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-03-15
Description:
Burke Mountain from West Burke, right off of Route 5. This area has been reforested considerably, making it hard to reshoot. I took it from here because there was a clearing through which I could see Burke Mountain, though the historic image was probably taken from just a little to the right of this scene. The mountain face itself has changed considerably, with many new trails cut on Burke Mountain ski area since the historic image was taken. Snowy day.

Title:
Burke Mountain from Burke Hollow area
Town:
Burke
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1960 - 1980
Description:
This image of Burke mountain is easy to date using the ski slopes that are visible. There are only three parts of the mountain visible. 1) The poma lift-line. 2) the trail Willoughby to the right of the poma line. 3) the Toll Road trail, a narrow trail that winds all the way up Burke mountain that was built by the CCC after World War 2. This photo is thus from the 1960's or 1970's, before more expansion had occurred at Burke mountain. In the foreground a clearing and coniferous forest.
