State:
Vermont
Date:

Description:
This image is a screenshot from a movie made using actual footage from the 1927 flood: This image shows the American Woolen Mill in Winooski from the Burlington side of the Winooski River after the flood waters had receded. Note that the water level is significantly lower than in LS12185 and LS12186. Two men can be seen in the foreground as well as a leafless deciduous tree. The men are both wearing hats, and overcoats.

Title:
Winooski River and Winooski from Burlington Today
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-03-10
Description:
This image was taken after the initial flood waters had receded but before the resurgence of flood water a few days after the initial flood. There are two significant things to be learned form this photograph. The first is that we can look at pictures of the river in 2008 and pictures from 1927 of the river during the high flood waters and see a clear difference, but this is a photo of the river at it's regular water level from 1927 that we can compare to it's regular water level in 2008. The second significant thing to notice about this picture is the tree on the right side that, from what we can see, appears to be very large and thus pretty old. The trees that are there now, as you can see in this 2008 photo, are not that thick and not that old. Image shows mill and hydro dam and powerstation.
